Construction Safety Training System is a computer-based certification on basic knowledge of safety in the construction industry. Upon completing the certification, you receive the certificate which you are expected to keep with you at all times. You must present the certificate to obtain entry to jobs in Alberta. You may be asked to present the certificate at any time while at the job site. Failure to produce a current, valid CSTS certificate is grounds for dismissal. Please note: If you took CSTS before January 1, 2004, your certification has expired and you need to recertify before returning to work. If you took CSTS on or after January 1, 2004, you are no longer required to recertify every three years.
As of November 1, 2010 the new ’09 CSTS version was introduced by the Alberta Construction Safety Association. It has 4 expanded modules and 1 new one. Members holding the old version 3.2 are not required at this time to take the new version but it is advised that they take the free upgrade as clients can demand that all workers be upgraded to CSTS ’09. It can be done at home, including the exams, and takes only 1-1 1/2 hours. Call Dan or Phil at 780-440-6832 to get information on how to access the web site for the upgrade.
