What Is the Insulator Apprenticeship?
The Insulator trade is a 4-year Red Seal apprenticeship governed by the Province of Alberta. Apprentices gain hands-on experience on the job while completing technical training at NAIT (Edmonton) or SAIT (Calgary). Successful completion lead to Journeyperson status, recognized across Canada.

Your Apprenticeship Journey (At a Glance)
Step 1: Meet the Entrance Requirements
Ensure you meet Alberta Apprenticeship Education entrance standards (see categories below).
Step 2: Register as an Apprentice
You are responsible for registering with the Alberta Apprenticeship Board to become indentured.
Step 3: Start Working in the Trade
Once employed as an Insulator Apprentice, your registration is accepted and your apprenticeship officially begins.
Step 4: Attend Technical Training
Complete in-school training at NAIT or SAIT during each year of apprenticeship.
Step 5: Become a Journeyperson
Complete all levels and exams to earn your Red Seal certification.

Local 110 does not control the apprenticeship process; it is governed by Alberta Apprenticeship.
Completing your apprenticeship is a condition of maintaining union membership.
Apprentices working non-union should contact Local 110 to discuss union benefits.
