Local 110 Calendars will be mailed out with the year end packages in February. Please call the hall as soon as possible if you need to update your address so as not to delay the receipt of your tax package. Updating your address prior to the end of January would be best, as we are hoping to have the tax packages mailed out in early February. If you would prefer to come to the Union Hall in Edmonton to pick up your calendar in person you are more than welcome to do so. Please come upstairs to the window and the staff will be able to check off your name so we don't mail one out to you as well. Tax Packages, however, will NOT be available for pick up.

Season’s Greetings

Season’s Greetings Brothers and Sisters. I would like to wish you and your family a healthy and prosperous New Year. For many of us, this is the time of year for celebration with Friends and Family, but it is also a time for reflection. For myself, I am proud of the many accomplishments we, as a Local have achieved over the last year.

With the start of the year came the change in how new workers start their career with Local 110. What began as a pilot project for an eight week pre-trades course, is now a cornerstone of our Training Center. We are now able to provide highly skilled and motivated starter apprentices to our signatory contractors. However, this would not have been possible without the countless extra hours Dan Annett Training Coordinator, put in to craft a curriculum that works as well as time spent delivering the course over and above his regular duties.

Later on in the year with the change to our bylaws, we were able to institute new member orientation. To date, approximately 100 members have attended New Member Orientation and have left with expanded knowledge on the services of our union, the history of Local 110 and the obligations of Membership. I feel that is a strong first step in building proud long term members.

I would also like to thank a number of people, that without, our union could not operate to the high standard our members have come to enjoy. Firstly the Local 110 Office Staff, who give so much of themselves to make our organization run and our events a success, your professionalism and dedication to our local, is inspiring. Next I would like to recognize the Job Stewards, who are diligently working for our local across the province. I know this is at times a difficult and thankless job but your efforts do not go unnoticed. We must not forget our Business Agents Doug Casemore, Doug Johnson, and Pat Tilley; who go over and above daily; working with members, contractors and clients to ensure our union’s success. I extend to each and every one of you my heartfelt thank you for a job well done.

Most importantly, I would like to thank the rank and file members. Those of you who show the pride in your work, show up and give a fair day’s work for a fair day’s pay, are the backbone of this local. With your continued support our local will get through this slowdown and be stronger on the other side.

Best wishes for a safe and happy holiday season and a prosperous New Year.
